You’re in business for a reason, to make money, of course, but what is the passion behind WHY you started your business.  It seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t think about it all that much.  Realistically speaking, the “why” for your business is going to be crucial to making sure that you actually end up making a positive difference in your customers’ lives.

Why does a “why” matter?

Let’s start with this very basic, but especially important question:

Why does your understanding of your business’s “why” matter in the first place?

First, it’s what drives you forward.  Even though there is serious stress and work-life balance associated with the idea of being consumed with your business’ every part, it’s important to make sure that you, well, succeed!

Understanding what you’re aiming for is going to drive you forward even on the hardest of days.  It’ll help you keep on trying even as the competition pulls ahead of you, or you have a setback for one reason or another.

Quite often, understanding your “why” is simply what makes the difference when it comes to the idea of succeeding or not.  When you truly understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, it gives you that extra little spark to keep on going even when things get really rough.

Finding your “why”

So, now that you understand the importance of it, how do you find it?  Your best bet will be calling in a business coach to help guide you toward your why.  Using tried and tested techniques, you’ll be well on your way to really understanding the central “why” for your business, in a way that makes sense to you.  A business coach will also show you how to use it to help motivate you on the really hard days.

Another thought, ask or remind yourself why you’re in business. What was the original idea that energized you to start up and offer your service or product?  How did you come up with the idea in the first place?  Get in touch with the actual energy that started you out on your path.  It’ll help you remember where you started (and your progress), and to also keep you on the right path to keep on meeting the need that originally motivated you in the first place.

Your “why” matters more than you think

If you’ve never really thought about your “why” in this much detail before, you aren’t alone.  However, it’s a great way to really get more familiar with your business and make sure that you are going after the right things for the right reasons.  With all of the competition out there, the increase in motivation to succeed won’t help, either!

You don’t need to take on this journey alone.  If you’re hunting for the right support and guidance, a business coach will give you just the helping hand that you deserve!  It really will make the difference that you need, you probably just don’t know it yet.  The rest is whatever you decide to make of it.
